Freya and Matt had a wonderful winter wedding at Sandhole Oak Barn in Congleton. Having met the bride and groom for a pre-wedding photo shoot at Lyme Park in Cheshire before their wedding, I could tell instantly that their day would be a joy to photograph. With Top Table Weddings & Events on hand to ensure their day went smoothly and the Gillan Edgar Band booked to rock the dance floor, it was guaranteed to be a good one!
Here are some of the best pictures from their Sandhole Oak Barn winter wedding.
The perfect venue for a winter wedding
Freya and Matt booked Sandhole Oak Barn in Congleton for their winter wedding. When planning a winter wedding it’s crucial to book the right venue. There needs to be plenty of indoor space as there won’t be much hanging around outside, plus the inside also needs to look great! Sandhole Oak Barn offers all of this and more. Plus there is plenty of dance floor space for the reception party.

Morning excitement at the barn
This day started with bridal preparation at Sandhole Oak Barn. The bride and her bridesmaids got their make up done by Maxine Smith who was amazing. Vicky M Hair also did a fantastic job with the girls’ hair. Freya had a gorgeous up do. Her loose curls were decorated with delicate white winter flowers. Finally, her make up was kept subtle and elegant.
Freya’s beautiful dress and flowers
Perhaps the most important decision for any winter wedding is what dress to wear! Looking amazing and keeping warm are both priorities. Freya made a perfect choice with a beautiful True Bride lace dress with long lace sleeves from Bridal Lounge. She looked amazing. Furthermore, the bride’s dress feature detachable sleeves which gave her two different styles with just one gown. Freya removed the sleeves after the speeches ready for there party! Finally, a stunning bouquet from Green Earth Flowers perfected the look.
The Bridesmaids looked lovely in matching floor length navy gowns from ASOS. Navy is a great choice of colour for a winter wedding and looked lovely as the groom and groomsmen were matching. As the couple got ready at their venue I got the chance to nip over and see the gents. Needless to say they looked dapper in their navy suits and were ready much quicker than the girls.
A sweet ceremony
Freya and Matt got married at a really gorgeous church, St James and St Paul’s Church, which is not far from Sandhole. After the ceremony the couple made their way to the reception in style in a vintage car from Horgans Cars.
Amazing venue dressing by Green Earth Flowers and Top Table
As Freya and Matt’s wedding was in the middle of winter, making sure the venue looked amazing was even more important as you spend most of the reception inside. Sandhole Oak Barn did not disappoint! The venue was dressed beautifully by Green Earth Flowers and Top Table. They showcased two of my favourite floral trends; garlands and hanging flowers. The end result was absolutely stunning. We used the garland as a backdrop for group pictures as well as some of the married couple.
Even the cake was kept simple and elegant. Featuring three tiers with cream frosting and decorated flower bunting, the cake made excellent photographs. Also, for those who aren’t too keen on cake they had handmade gingerbread men on the tables. This was a really nice idea!
Winter wedding photography at Sandhole Oak Barn
The best thing about winter weddings is often the party. As it’s freezing outside everyone stays on the dance floor!
Freya and Matt booked the extremely talented Gillan Edgar Band who kept everyone dancing well into the night. We got some great party photographs. With a background in event photography, I love getting shots of everyone having a good time and letting loose.
Towards the end of the night it’s always nice to capture a night time image of the newlyweds. Winter wedding photography regularly involves dramatic night time shots with rain. However the bride and groom were very lucky with the weather. Instead, I photographed the married couple just outside of Sandhole Oak Barn with the glistening winter fairy lights.
Finally, the last winter wedding photograph was with sparklers. Freya wanted a wedding picture surrounded by sparklers. After a few beers, the lads were having a great time and this turned into a good bit of fun! Not so sure about Freya though! Sparklers are great for winter wedding photography. The last picture of the night has to be one of my favourites!
Freya and Matt’s Sandhole Oak Barn winter wedding was amazing from start to finish. A real joy to photograph. This was the perfect winter wedding and I’m so excited for the year ahead.
