It’s always a pleasure to photograph a winter wedding – especially at a venue as iconic as 30 James Street in Liverpool. Photographing weddings during the winter months is a completely different experience from shooting in the summer time. Amanda and Mark’s wedding was right before Christmas which is such a fantastic time to get married. Wedding venues have all their stunning decorations up and everyone is in the festive spirit!
Morning Photos
The wedding day began at 30 James Street for bridal preparation. Choosing a hotel suite to get ready in is great for wedding photos. The rooms at the venue are all beautiful and set up perfectly for the bridal party. One of our favourite images from the morning is of Amanda just as she had put on her stunning gown from Brides by Natalie. The bridesmaids all had their hair expertly done by Nala & Knot. It was then time for the wedding ceremony.
The Grand Hall Ceremony
Wedding ceremonies at 30 James Street are held in the White Star Grand Hall. A stunningly bright room which works so well for winter weddings. Amanda and Mark had a beautiful ceremony. The couple smiled the whole way through. Readings were delivered by close friends which is a great way to include people in your special day. There were so many lovely moments between the couple to photograph during the ceremony.
30 James Street Rooftop
Once the vows had been exchanged the couple moved outside for group photos. Everyone was a great sport having their photos taken outside 30 James Street, especially given that it was December! The steps leading up to 30 James Street are perfect for wedding photography. City centre weddings during the winter months require more creativity when it comes to wedding pictures. Often there are no green spaces around and the weather prohibits being outside for too long. Luckily the sun shone beautifully for Amanda and Mark. This made for beautiful portraits out on the roof. At the top of 30 James Street there are panoramic views over the whole of Liverpool. The striking view across the city scape includes prominent architecture from the Liver Buildings.
Winter Wedding Photos
After outdoor photos were finished, guests were all invited back into the Grand Hall for the wedding breakfast. The room was decorated beautifully with flowers from The Flower Barn. Toastmaster Dave welcomed everyone and started proceedings. Some of the best photos of the day were taken during the speeches. One of our favourites from the day is of Amanda and Mark during the best man’s speech. This part of the wedding always produces fantastic moments. Amanda is peeking through her hands during a particularly cringe part of the speech. The best man did a great job and had everyone in stitches.
Night Time Portraits
Once the meal was finished Amanda and Mark were able to take advantage of the amazing cityscape for photos. Within a short stroll of 30 James Street there are so many opportunities for wedding photography. In spite of the cold winter weather the newlyweds were happy to spend a few moments outside. Night time portraits are so dramatic and really stand out in wedding albums. A beautiful image from the wedding was taken in front of Pier Head. It’s such an interesting backdrop for wedding photos with new and old buildings sitting alongside each other.
Party time
A wedding isn’t complete without a party! Another benefit of a winter wedding is that everyone is feeling very festive. Shane loves to capture photos of everyone having a fun time during the evening reception. Everyone got really into the spirit of the occasion and there was even some oops upside your head dancing!
