So this wedding has to be one of the best that I have ever been to – and I have been to a lot! Katy and Shelly booked me for their Constellations Liverpool wedding photography last year and as soon as I met them I knew it would be a good one as they were bursting with excitement about their big day. Even more exciting is that their wedding reception was to be held at an awesome venue, Constellations Liverpool, which has only hosted three weddings so far and so this was the fourth. I love alternative venues and this one suited my creative wedding photography style perfectly. Situated in Liverpool city centre, Constellations is surrounded by urban streets, graffiti walls and there is even a skate park just minutes away.
Bridal preparation at the Titanic Hotel Liverpool
Katy decided to get ready at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool which is another amazing wedding venue that I have worked at previously. It was a beautiful summers day so the view over the dock from the bedroom window was incredible. As a Manchester wedding photographer the weather can be a bit unpredictable but the whole day was sunny with bright blue skies! Katy was all smiles as she was having her hair and makeup done sipping champagne. To compliment her floor length wedding dress, Katy picked out some super cool bright red high heels from Dune along with a big, bold and colourful bouquet that featured cute daisies paired with orange and pink roses. I also met Shelly at her house for bridal preparation where she was equally excited. The flower girls were at the house with Shelly and they couldn’t wait to get their dresses on. Being the alternative bride, Shelly went for an awesome bright blue suit from Reiss which she paired with a rose gold Marc Jacobs watch and brown lace casual shoes. I couldn’t help but notice the quirky decorations around their house – including a framed “ultimate guide to single ladies put a ring on it” which showed their love of Beyonce and would later compliment the choreographed dance of the single ladies track!
St Georges Hall wedding ceremony
After both of the brides were ready it was off to St Georges Hall in Liverpool city centre for the same sex marriage. It was an emotional ceremony, packed full of laughter and tears! As a documentary wedding photographer I love capturing natural moments. As Katy walked down the aisle and met Shelly there were tears mixed with laughter and it really set the foundations for the day ahead. A few of the friends and family shed a tear too and it really showed how much they cared about this awesome couple. After the same sex wedding ceremony they both cheered their way outside to be greeted by the guests. The flower girls and paige boy had a great time running up and down the large steps which made for some great St Georges Hall wedding photos!
A quick stop off at Albert Dock
To add to the list of venues and locations in Liverpool that we visited in one day, the brides wanted to stop off at Albert Dock for some wedding photos. This was a great idea as you get a great view over Liverpool city centre from the bridge and we even managed to get the Liver buildings in the background of their photos. This area was particularly personal to Katy as she works at Revolution Liverpool so to have her wedding photos here was a nice touch!
Same Sex wedding at Constellations Liverpool
Katy & Shelly were married and it was off to Constellations Liverpool in their vintage VW camper van for the reception! The sun was shining, drinks were flowing and the light was perfect which all made for top Constellations Liverpool wedding photography. Upon arrival I was instantly wowed by the beautiful table decorations in this alternative wedding venue. With an orange and turquoise colour scheme for their wedding, the room was dressed with hanging lights, ceiling flowers, jam jars, cup cakes and giant light up LOVE letters on the dance floor. In preparation for the partying that was yet to come there were also wedding flip flops “so tired feet don’t miss a beat” and a dance floor rules sign. After the speeches – which were hilarious – we went out into the garden for some alternative and creative Constellations Liverpool wedding photography. I love alternative wedding photography and with a same sex couple that wanted some really quirky photos it was a dream. I took some fun group photos on the benches of their best friends and then got some natural photos of the bridesmaids standing by an urban graffiti wall.
A choreographed Beyonce wedding dance
To finish off this incredible Constellations Liverpool wedding, Shelly decided to surprise Katy with a choreographed wedding dance to Beyonce tracks that she and her bridesmaids had been practising for months. It went down a storm! The guests were in hysterics which again made for some great natural photos. It was such a joy to be Katy and Shelly’s Constellations Liverpool wedding photographer and I can’t wait to be back here again soon.
