Being able to capture the weddings of friends, old colleagues and people you have met along the way is just one of the joys of being a wedding photographer. Having met Fenton whilst working in Ibiza it was extra special to be a part of his and Fiona’s celebration. Milling Barn was their chosen venue, a charming 17th century oak barn in Throcking.
Milling Barn offers fantastic opportunities for natural and contemporary wedding photography. We are delighted to be one of the venues recommended suppliers. This is a wedding venue we love to shoot due to its rustic features and stunning countryside views.
The day started with bridal preparation. Hair styling for the girls was courtesy of Faith Glifford and makeup by Nicolette Bella. The bridesmaids wore slate grey dresses in a long and elegant style from Two Birds. The bride chose a strapless fishtail gown designed by Essense of Australia from Marshmallow Bride, St Albans. They all looked amazing.
Shane took some group photographs of the bride and her bridesmaids before setting off. The autumn leaves served as a beautiful backdrop for pictures. Each season brings something different, Milling Barn wedding photography looks really special in the autumn. We highly recommend booking hair and makeup early to allow time for photographs. It’s nice to capture a mix of natural and group photos before heading to the ceremony.
Wedding ceremony at Milling Barn
Fiona and Fenton chose to have their wedding ceremony at Milling Barn as well as their reception. This is a great choice as it means you don’t have to all move around half way through the day! Milling Barn is also setup perfectly for capturing stunning wedding photos of the ceremony. The ceremony was beautiful, the barn was decorated with delicate fairy lights and flowers by Carole Smith. Even in late autumn the space was bright an airy, fantastic for photos.
After the ceremony Shane invited the couple to take a stroll around the grounds. Milling Barn is perfect for natural wedding portraits. Letting the couple spend some time together and capturing natural moments along the way is one of Shane’s favourite ways to photograph. Orange and red autumnal leaves were beautiful in the pictures. Luckily for the time of year the weather was good and not too cold. Shane was able to photograph portraits and group photos outside making the most of the green space.
Time to party
The reception was held in the charming oak barn. As Fenton is a DJ each of the tables had a musical theme from Garage to Motown! It’s always nice when a couple incorporates their personality into their theme. With Fenton being in the musical trade you can imagine just how the party was later on! They had Kesem as their band for the first half off the night and then Fenton himself took to the stage! Another addition to the party was our Photo Booth which was a hit with the guests. All the day was captured in video too by the talented Jon Bird.
As a recommended photographer at Milling Barn we love the chance to photograph weddings at the venue. If you are getting married and looking to book your photography please get in touch. Shane predominately works in the North West but offers free travel to anywhere in the UK.
