Stunning architecture, scenic countryside
Sally and Jack chose the historic Hoghton Tower for their summer wedding. We were delighted to provide the photography for their big day. You won’t find a venue much older than Hoghton Tower in the whole of Lancashire – the original building dates back as early as 1109. The Tower has been restored in parts and lovingly cared for throughout the years. After serving guests as esteemed as William Shakespeare, Hoghton Tower is now available for the most special of celebrations.
Hoghton Tower summer wedding photography is simply stunning. From the architecture of the building itself to the surrounding countryside, there are so many attributes for photographers to take advantage of. Venues with vast outdoor space are the perfect accompaniment to summer weddings as guests can fully enjoy all the scenery on offer.
Capturing moments at bridal preparation
The morning of the wedding is reserved for bridal preparation. We understand that some of the most magical moments of the day are captured during this time. This is why full day coverage is standard in our wedding photography packages. Photographers can often miss bridal preparation or the leave right after the first dance and miss the party. Both are equally important and we are proud to cut no corners when it comes to delivering the best wedding photography to our clients.
Advice from Shane: How to get the best bridal preparation photos
For the morning of Sally and Jack’s summer wedding there were some lovely moments; particularly of the flower girl. Kids make for the cutest wedding pictures. All the girls looked amazing. Hair was styled in sophisticated up do’s by Jodie at B Styled Darwen. The bridesmaids wore beautiful sky blue dresses from Susan Craig Bridal. Their gowns went so well with the gorgeous yellow bouquets from Margaret Mason. We love when brides choose a bright colour palette for their weddings, it always makes the photographs pop. Dare to be bold!
Traditional church ceremony
Sally wore an intricate lace wedding dress from Wedding Belles and looked stunning in the pictures. Vintage cars provided by Classic Wedding Carriages whisked the party to the church for the wedding ceremony. It’s always a joy to photograph a traditional church ceremony.
After the ceremony we all set off to Hoghton Tower. As we left the church it immediately started to rain. As a wedding photographer you have to see the humour when things don’t go exactly to plan. We all hope for a dry day, especially with a summer wedding, but sometimes the weather has other ideas. Sally and Jack certainly took the showers in their stride.
Stunning photography at Hoghton Tower
At Hoghton Tower there are loads of places to take the couple for stunning photography. The whole place is incredibly beautiful and the scenery is idillic too. Due to Hoghton Tower’s location you are able to see for miles on a clear day, even as far as North Wales from the top of the tower. This summer wedding location is a photographers dream due to the wealth of opportunity for fantastic images.
Newlyweds can stay at Hoghton Tower for portraits or take a little time out to go a bit further into the countryside. It’s completely up to the clients how much time they want to dedicate to their photographs. What you can be sure of is that choosing Hoghton Tower means even with a tight schedule the quality of images won’t be compromised.
Grand reception
This summer wedding had the reception in one of the grand rooms at Hoghton Tower. Often in older buildings there aren’t a lot of windows and the natural light inside is compromised as a result. This is not the case at Hoghton Tower. Huge windows allow light to pour into the room. Natural light is such an important part of capturing great wedding pictures. The room itself was decorated beautifully with summer flower centrepieces and garlands.
We really recommend hiring a venue dresser if you’re getting married. If you need a helping hand we have curated a list of esteemed wedding suppliers in Manchester and the North West. Luxury suppliers really make wedding photos extra special.
The wedding reception was simple and elegant from start to finish. Sally and Jack chose a rustic three tier wedding cake from Champagne Cakes featuring real flowers which was beautiful.
Tipi wedding photography
Guests moved into a tipi for the evening reception provided by Big Chief Tipis. Tipi weddings are perfect for large gatherings and look great in photos. The inside of a tipi is completely blank so couples can really incorporate their personalities into the decor. String lights at the entrance of the tipi can be used creatively for wedding photography too. Warm rustic lights really make the photos stand out.

Party pictures at Hoghton Tower
The Fusion Dukes played in the tipi and had the whole crowd dancing. Perhaps the best photograph from the entire wedding is of Sally dancing on her friends shoulders! It’s always great to photograph the party, especially when things get a bit wild. Hoghton Tower is a great venue for a party as you are miles away from anywhere and don’t have to worry about waking the neighbours.
